Roller Garage Doors Bristol

Roller garage doors lift straight up and roll away into a neat box above the opening. Nothing swings out onto your drive, and no tracks run back into the garage. We supply and fit insulated aluminium roller doors across Bristol, most with electric operation as standard and a remote to open the door from your car. They suit garages up to 16ft (4.8m) wide and are one of the most practical choices for short driveways and garages that open close to the pavement.

What Is a Roller Garage Door?

A roller garage door is made from interlocking aluminium slats that wind around a steel drum above the opening as the door rises. Because it moves vertically, you can park a second car right up to the door without blocking it. Inside, the ceiling and the wall space either side of the door stay free for storage. There’s no internal tracking, and the door is a good fit for arched openings too.

Why Choose a Roller Door?

Space on the drive and in the garage

Because the door travels vertically, a car can be parked tight to it, and straight-backed vehicles such as 4x4s fit a smaller garage more easily.

Wide and arched openings

Suitable for garages up to 4.8m wide, and a good fit for arched openings.

Electric as standard on most models

Open the door from your car by remote. The motor sits inside a steel barrier with a sensor that stops the door descending onto someone or something.

Insulated, rust-proof aluminium

Twin-walled aluminium slats hold the insulation, side and bottom seals keep out draughts and rain, and aluminium won’t rust.

Insulated Roller Garage Doors, Supplied and Fitted in Bristol

Across Bristol, roller doors are a favourite on terraced streets and at homes with shorter drives, where an outward-opening door would swing over the pavement. They also suit the contemporary frontages and standard opening widths on newer estates like Emersons Green, Longwell Green and Bradley Stoke.

Our roller doors come from Alutech and Ryterna, two manufacturers we’re an approved installer for, and our own engineers fit the TÜV-tested motor systems. Single-skin and insulated versions are available in over 20 colours, including woodgrain effects if you like the look of timber without the upkeep. We don’t supply timber roller doors, so a woodgrain aluminium finish is the way to get that look with a roller.

Manual or Electric Roller Door?

Most of our roller door models come with electric operation as standard, and manual versions are available too. Both are easy to use, but electric is now the default on most new installations in Bristol. You open and close the door by remote from the car, so there’s no getting out in bad weather and you get extra security when you come home at night. Most of our motor systems can also be upgraded to smartphone control.

On a roller door the motor comes built into the door rather than bolted on afterwards. It’s housed in a steel barrier with a safety sensor, so the door won’t descend onto a person or object in its path. It’s covered by our 10-year automation warranty, explained below. For more on motors, remotes and adding automation to other door types, see our electric garage doors page.

Built to Last, With Proper Guarantees

Our roller garage doors are manufactured to ISO 9001 standards. The insulated versions use 40mm twin-walled slats that provide space for insulation, a sensible choice if the garage doubles as a home office, extra bedroom or games area.

Our own 10-year warranty covers the automation. On top of that, most doors come with a full 10-year guarantee from the manufacturer, and every installation is guaranteed for five years minimum. Manufacturers usually ask for a yearly service to keep their warranty valid, and our service plan or a one-off service visit takes care of that.

We fit roller doors all over Bristol, from Clifton, Redland and Bishopston to Filton, Kingswood and Brislington, and further out in Clevedon, Portishead, Nailsea, Thornbury, Yate and Bath. Advice and quotes cost nothing and come with no obligation.

Roller Garage Door FAQs

What is a roller shutter garage door?

A roller shutter garage door opens vertically, moving straight up and down. This makes it ideal for driveways where a second vehicle is parked close to the garage, as the vertical action allows parking right up to the door while keeping inside overhead storage and wall space accessible.

What safety features do automatic roller garage doors include?

The electric operating motor sits within a steel barrier fitted with a sensor that prevents the door from descending when someone or something is underneath it, helping to avoid injury or damage.

Do roller garage doors save space on the driveway?

Yes. Because the door opens vertically, a second car can be parked close to the garage without needing to be moved. Vehicles with straight backs, such as 4×4s, can fit into smaller garages more easily.

Are roller garage doors rustproof?

Yes. They are made from aluminium, making them lightweight and rustproof, helping them maintain their appearance for years.

Do roller garage doors need internal tracking?

No. The slats roll around a steel drum, creating a neat and efficient solution that requires no internal tracking.

Can I customise a roller shutter garage door?

Yes. Abacus offers a choice of sizes, slat depths, curtains and a range of colours.

What are the benefits of roller garage doors?

Roller garage doors are light, easy to use and offer a manual or automatic option. They provide excellent insulation, are suitable for wide garages and are made from aluminium, which means they will not rust.

Are roller garage doors insulated?

Yes. All roller garage doors from Abacus contain twin-walled interlocking slats that provide space for insulation. Thermaglide doors include sound and thermal insulation using CFC-free foam, allowing the garage to be used as an additional room if required.

Are roller garage doors suitable for wide garages?

Yes. Roller doors are ideal for wide garages and are perfect for openings up to 16ft or 4.8 metres wide.

Are roller garage doors available in manual and automatic versions?

Yes. Abacus offers both manual and automatic roller doors. The automatic version includes a remote control and provides smooth, easy operation.

Do ABA Doors offer roller shutter garage door repairs?

Yes. There is a dedicated repair service for roller shutter garage doors via the repair section of the site.
